Students are expected to finish all of their courses by early June so that they are equipped for the next year of study and there is time to prepare the final report card before summer break.

An overview of our Grade 6 program:

Your teacher will work with you to review and understand the learning standards in each curricular subject area for the school year.

Art

In this course, students will have first-hand opportunities to create, express themselves, appreciate and critique other artist's work in the areas of dance, drama, music and visual arts. They will experience a wide variety of activities, use technology, and engage with art from early times, to the present era. They'll study techniques and methods used by local, Aboriginal and international artists, and they'll learn about the cultural significance of many different forms of art.

Your teacher will develop this with you once you are registered in your grade.

French

Students will delve into one of Canada's official languages with a wide variety of activities. They will learn that meaningful interactions are possible and fun, even with only a basic knowledge of French. Through reading, writing, listening and speaking activities, students will learn vocabulary and useful phrases as well as the importance of Francophone communities in Canada and around the world.

Career Education

Students will begin this course looking into decision making and goal setting. They will also work through a variety of assignments related to career development, healthy living and healthy relationships, community health services and communicable diseases, as well as substance misuse prevention and safety and injury prevention. It’s a well-rounded course that looks at practical knowledge and application for young adults.
