An overview of our Grade 7 program:

Your teacher will work with you to review and understand the learning standards in each curricular subject area for the school year.

Science

In Science 7, students will combine academic knowledge and research with practical, hands-on experiments and lab write ups. They will work through units on ecosystems, chemistry and the Earth's crust. They will often work with and consider local and provincial subject matter, on their way to completing this interesting and useful course.

Career Education

Students will begin this course looking into decision making and goal setting. They will also work through a variety of assignments related to career development, healthy living and healthy relationships, community health services and communicable diseases, as well as substance misuse prevention and safety and injury prevention. It's a well-rounded course that looks at practical knowledge and application for young adults.

Math

In this course, students will begin by working through units on numeracy (integers, decimals, percent and fractions), and patterns and relationships (variables, expressions and equations). They will continue on to work with shape and space (geometry, lines, circles, area and coordinate grids), and finish up with lessons on statistics and probability (data analysis, theoretical and experimental probability). Along with academics, activities are meant to show the practical, real life uses for mathematics as well.

English Language Arts

If you enjoy getting lost in a good book, writing mysteries or adventure stories, reading and writing poetry, or delivering speeches, English Language Arts 7 is the course for you!

Social Studies

Students will explore civilizations such as Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India or Ancient China in an attempt to understand how we got to the modern times we're living in today. They will research geographic conditions, language development, religious and cultural practices, and increasingly complex economic and legal systems that were the beginnings of what we have now. This course is a peek into a fascinating time of human development.

Art Education

They will experience a wide variety of activities, use technology, and engage with art from early times, to the present era. They'll study techniques and methods used by local, Aboriginal and international artists, and they'll learn about the cultural significance of many different forms of art.

Your teacher will develop this with you once you are registered in your grade.
