Meet Our Teachers - Lynn Aubin

Meet Our Teachers - Lynn Aubin

Hard to believe the first month of the new year is already over! Time flies when you're learning online. We have one more new team member to introduce to you: Meet Lynn Aubin, and don't forget to check out our Learn & Play Winter Challenge!

1. What’s your name and where are you from?

My name is Lynn Aubin and I was raised in Penticton and now reside in Merritt.

2. How long have you been a teacher at SCIDES?

I am new to SCIDES this year.

3. Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I enjoy working with people and helping them learn new things. Seeing students grow and change over time is cool. I also love to learn, and in this job, I am constantly learning.

4. What’s your favourite aspect of being a teacher?

I enjoy seeing a student’s excitement when they learn a new concept or skill. Planning engaging lessons can be fun too.

5. What’s your least favourite aspect of being a teacher?

My least favourite aspect of being a teacher is not having enough the time to do all the activities that I want to do with my students.

6. What’s your best advice for students who want to figure out their career path and calling?

If you have an idea of the career path that you want to follow, then volunteer in that area to get firsthand experience to see if it’s a good fit for you.

If you have no idea what career path you want to follow, then expose yourself to many careers while you are young. Ask questions and do your research.

Travelling before getting into a career is also a good option. I learned a lot about myself while I was travelling, and it opened my eyes to the world around me.

7. What’s your favourite book and why?

I enjoyed reading “A Dog’s Purpose” by W. Bruce Cameron. I was interested in this book because I like dogs and have owned one for most of my life. It was funny to see things from the dog’s perspective. The book kept me on an emotional roller coaster; one minute I was laughing and the next minute crying. I liked the themes of loyalty and the never give up mentality.

8. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice that I’ve ever received is that it’s important to have a good work/life balance. This is something that I am still working on.

9. What do you still want to learn?

There is so much that I still want to learn. I want to learn how to become more efficient with many of the things that I do. I want to learn more about photography, become a better guitar player, become a better cook, develop some skills to repair things around my house and the list goes on.10. When you’re not busy helping your students and marking assignments, what do you enjoy doing?

10. When you’re not busy helping your students and marking assignments, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy spending time with my family. In the summer my family and I enjoy camping, swimming, golfing, riding our bikes, and hiking. In the winter we go to the pool, go skiing, sledding and snowshoe and I like to play hockey. We also love to travel.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions, Lynn! We're so glad to have you on the SCIDES team.
